Decorate A Christmas Tree

For this christmas activity we were asked to decorate a Christmas tree, and then write what we were thankful for.

To accomplish this task we had to think of something we were thankful for this year. I choose dancefit, for the reasons i stated in the box, and because I couldn't imagine my life without it! After we had written what we were thankful for we got to digitally decorate a Christmas tree.

First I choose holly to act like tinsel around my christmas tree, because my name is Holly. Secondly I copied and pasted all of the ornaments from the slide that had all the decoration onto my slide. Then I made them a suitable size, and dragged them onto the tree. Next I choose two colors of candy canes and placed them randomly around the tree. Lastly I placed a bright yellow star on top of my christmas tree (putting it on before the end should be illegal in my opinion).

Writing-Diving Giraffes

In room three, we have been working on a piece of writing called Diving Giraffes. In this writing we had to include figurative language, such as, similes, alliteration, onomatopeya, hyperbili, and verbs and adjectives. This writing was a recount, so we had to write in the correct order of what happened in the video.

The very first thing we had to do was watch a interesting video of diving giraffes, and while doing that we would take notes. Some things we took note of were, how the giraffes looked, their actions, the layout/setting, and more. Next, we get to work, and start writing.

Surprisingly, I enjoyed this writing, considering Im not a fan of  recounts. One reason I enjoyed it was because it was on a very original topic (I am pretty confident you don't normally see a tower of giraffes jumping off diving boards). I also enjoyed it because it is fun coming up with alliterations, similes, and other figurative language.

Next time I would change the background of my second writing slide, so it was easier to see.

Me And My Well-being

For this task we were asked to put words, quotes, and picture together to create a slide about our well-being.
We did this based around Matariki, and what you might do sometimes to celebrate and take care of yourself.

We had to go onto google and search up things that we did for our well-being. For example, I searched up ¨people playing tag¨, because often when we celebrate, all the kids go outside and play tag. Another thing we could do was take a picture with friends, if that helps your well-being. We could also insert text boxes with words like ¨Dance", and find quote on google.

What is an explanation text- How Does Popcorn Pop?

We were learning to make connections between what I've learnt, and what I already know. I showed this learning asset, because I watched a video based around popcorn, and used this new knowledge to help build my explanation text.

Everyone got to choose if we wanted to write an explanation text about how popcorn pops, or how to use scissors, and the parts on them. I choose popcorn, because I wanted to learn something new, as well as writing about something that appealed to me.

The first thing we needed to do was watch a video, as I've mentioned before, and store that new knowledge in our brain. Next we needed to develop our introduction to hook the reader in, and tell the main idea. After that we got to work on writing how a kernel pops, and all the stages involved. Finally, we made the conclusion, by talking about what we had learnt, and wrapped it all up.

Onomatopoeia Fireworks Writing

In this writing piece we were learning about Onomatopoeia, onomatopoeia is when you say something like "POW", "BOOM", "SPLASH", to make your sentence more interesting. Its sound you use to describe something, and in this piece of writing to describe fireworks.

To help us use onomatopoeia we were told to write a poem about fireworks. For this piece of writing we had to describe what the fireworks looked like, and maybe use some similes and alliteration.

I used the learning asset thinker/Whai Whakaaro, because I communicated with the person reading this by describing the colours, shapes and sounds of the fireworks. I also communicated by using the knowledge I already have about fireworks, but this was a little difficult, because I hide inside when there fireworks at my house or friends houses.

Te Whare Tapa Wha

Te Whare Tapa Wha is four wall that make a Whare, and help you get through life as one whole Whare. Taha Tinana- Physical, Taha Wairua- Spiritual, Taha Hinengaro- Mental and Emotional, and Taha Whanau- Family and Social.

I showed Whai Whakaaro/Thinker, by thinking into my Physical, Spiritual, Mental and Emotional, and Family and Social. I did this by looking into my past and looking at what helped me through tough times and great times.

For Physical I choose Swimming, Dancefit, and my Cats. Swimming, I choose this because when something effects me physically I like to forget about it and go for a swim to keep my mind of things. Dancefit because I can get out a lot of my energy and it makes me feel happier. Cats because I can snuggle up with them and they bring me comfort.

For Spirtaural I choose the letter S, Reach values, and books. It is a tradition in my family that we name all of our pets starting with the letter S. For example, Stormy, Senna, Simba, and Sangio, the first two are our current pets, and the second two are sadly not here. Reach values are a word we use at school, they stand for, R- respect, E- excellence, A- Attitude, C- community, and H- have a heart. These are the values I try hard to show outside, and especially inside of school. Books are special to me, because when I read them it brings me joy and I'm not sure what I would do without them.

For Mental and Emotional I choose Reflection, Music, and Swimming. Reflection, because to move on you need to reflect and see what you could do next time to help the situation. Music because it helps calm me, and swimming for the sme reason in Physical.

Family and social is very important, because seeing family, friends and other/my cats can cheer me up alot and help when it comes to love, support, and advice.

What does Te Whare Tapa Wha mean to me? It means making sure every wall of the Whare stays up to insure that I stay happy, healthy, loved, and more. Keeping myself and others safe.

Famous New Zealander/Lorde

I learnt more skills as a communicator, because I was able to ask question's of friends and others to help put me on the right track. I also showed Kaikorero by helping others to complete there learning.

I self managed myself by getting on with my learning and finishing it in the time I was given. I also showed Kaiwhakarite, because I had all the tools I needed to complete the task, and had them out when I was meant to.

I shared my ideas with Comix, using the tools provided to create the story of Lordes childhood up to now. I found Comix a fun and different way to show our learning.

I was a researcher  because I used google to help me find out my questions, I asked the questions that I needed to, to get the information I needed to create a story.

Next term I could add more information into non-fiction stories, and go beyond what I can already do to improve my learning.

Then and Now

In this blog post we were learning about what it was like in the 1900's and what it's now. For this task we had to, interview Mrs Leggett, as she lived in the 1900's. We copied down notes in a group, because we didn't want to forget what she said. Next, we designed a title page, and got to work on our writing. After we had finished writing, we had to add in a backgrounds and pictures to help the reader understand what were saying. Finally (now),  we have to reflect on our learning in our blog post.

One thing I enjoyed about this task, was interviewing  Mrs Leggett because it was a different experience, and I enjoyed predicting what Mrs Leggett was about to say. I also enjoyed this because we got to work in a team to decide what we were going to write down, and how much detail.

I communicated with the reader, because I put in audio to help the reader understand. I also used pictures, title page, and text, so that there should be a way for everyone to understand.

I organised my idea's/information I had gathered in a way that I think people will understand, because I made titles when I was talking about Now or Then, so the reader's would now when I'm switching from Now and Then.

I choose the right source of information, because Mrs Leggett lived in the 1900's and was able to provide the answers that we needed to complete the task.

I stayed organised and managed my time effectively, because I finished my task on time and made sure everything was the way it needed to be, to show that I researched, communicated, and was a self manager.

Early life with the gold miners in New Zealand

We were learning to write about someone that came to New Zealand in the early days. We had a lot of chooses of who we could choose but I came to the conclusion that I would do it about the gold miners and the Otago gold rush, but it also says a little bit about the other gold rushes the occurred in New Zealand. First we had to do a lot of research on our subject that we choose, as well as taking notes while we did this. After that we had to turn all of the notes into a piece of writing and publish it.

I found it challenging to find all of the details to fit into the story, because I would research one thing and then I would have to research another to make everything fit into the story.

I found it easy to turn the notes into writing, because I had found all the information I needed from researching on my chrome book, because I did have quite a few notes to use up.

I really enjoyed this because I got to learn more about the gold miners in New Zealand, and then write about what I found out about and share it with you. I also enjoyed doing this, because at the end I got to publish it and make look how I wanted it to look.

Next time I need to put a few more pictures in my slides to help people understand more and paint a picture in there head.

Life in Aotearoa New Zealand: La da de moth

We were learning to create a made up animal of our choose. First we had to find an animal that already existed. Then we had to add on things to our animal and make it look a little bit different so that its a brand new animal!

I found it challenging to make my animal look different because my animal had so much detail on its body so it was quite hard to polyline it, and I wanted to keep it as realistic as possible. I managed to polyline some of the body, the wings and then I added a bit on myself.

I found it easy to find the picture of hummingbird moth that was transparent because I learnt how to do it last year. I also found it easy to write the facts about my creature around it because I used facts about other animals and I also made up its habitats.

I really enjoyed this because I got to create a new animal and draw it with polyline. I also enjoyed this because I got to write facts about the animals and I found this very enjoyable.

Next time I need to write a little less facts because it take up a lot of space and you can barely read it.

Change poem

We were learning to write a poem about what we think change is. What we had to first was brainstorm, we had to write down sentences on a piece of paper of things that has happened to us (it had to involve change). Then we had to use a template and copy our ideas into it.

I found it challenging to put my idea into a poem as I haven't made to many poem's in my life. I also found it hard to think of a lot of ideas of change because there was a lot of spaces we had to fill out to complete the task.

I found it easy to publish my poem once I competed the writing bit of it because I'm used to google slides and I know how to change the font and font size as well as the background colour.

I enjoyed this because as well as making a poem we shared idea's about what change looks like in our life and others. Doing let me learn a bit more about other people lifes.

Next time I need to change the bit were I say "Small kittens going from a fluff ball to grown up cats" because I need to try and find another word than "going".

Where I learn best...

We were learning about we we learn best. What we had to to first was write a text about were we learn best. After that we were allowed to change the slide. For example we could change the colour of founts and layouts, change the set out and move the slide around a little bit.

I found it easy to write about were I learn best because the place that I write about, that was were I was sitting when I was writing it. I also found it easy to say in the text about when Im fine with it to be loud and quiet.

I found it challenging to take the photo of were I learn best because it was hard to find a place to put my chromebook while I was taking it. I also found it hard to get the photo to look good because you couldn't put a timer on and therefor you had to hold down the camera when you were taking the photo.

I really enjoyed doing this because at the end I got to publish it a bit more and make it look a bit better in my opinion. I also enjoyed this task because it wasn't to hard and it was something I could do in about five to eight minutes.
