Life in Aotearoa New Zealand: La da de moth

 


We were learning to create a made up animal of our choose. First we had to find an animal that already existed. Then we had to add on things to our animal and make it look a little bit different so that its a brand new animal!

I found it challenging to make my animal look different because my animal had so much detail on its body so it was quite hard to polyline it, and I wanted to keep it as realistic as possible. I managed to polyline some of the body, the wings and then I added a bit on myself.

I found it easy to find the picture of hummingbird moth that was transparent because I learnt how to do it last year. I also found it easy to write the facts about my creature around it because I used facts about other animals and I also made up its habitats. 

I really enjoyed this because I got to create a new animal and draw it with polyline. I also enjoyed this because I got to write facts about the animals and I found this very enjoyable. 

Next time I need to write a little less facts because it take up a lot of space and you can barely read it. 

Change poem

 


We were learning to write a poem about what we think change is. What we had to first was brainstorm, we had to write down sentences on a piece of paper of things that has happened to us (it had to involve change). Then we had to use a template and copy our ideas into it. 

I found it challenging to put my idea into a poem as I haven't made to many poem's in my life. I also found it hard to think of a lot of ideas of change because there was a lot of spaces we had to fill out to complete the task.

I found it easy to publish my poem once I competed the writing bit of it because I'm used to google slides and I know how to change the font and font size as well as the background colour.

I enjoyed this because as well as making a poem we shared idea's about what change looks like in our life and others. Doing let me learn a bit more about other people lifes.

Next time I need to change the bit were I say "Small kittens going from a fluff ball to grown up cats" because I need to try and find another word than "going".

My apples are stuck! (writing)

 

We were learning to create explanation writing. Explanation writing is where you explain how something works or why something happens. For this explanation writing we had to choose between three issues that we had to resolve using three objects. The three issues where a kite had got stuck on a roof, the sports ball had gone missing and getting the apples from the top of the tree down. I choose getting the apple from the top of the tree down. I got to choose between six objects, the three that I choose where a car, a hammer and a spade. 

I was being a thinker because I had to figure out how to resolve the problem that I choose using only three objects.

I found it easy to write my story down once I had done my planning because when I was doing my planning I was putting down ideas and sentences that I thought I would use in my story. I also found it easy to put in adjectives to describe what was happening in the story and say what things were like.

I found it challenging to choose one of the issues to solve because every issue had six objects to choose from and when you looked at all of them you had no idea how to use any of the objects for this particular issue. I also found it challenging to write down why the apples from the top of the tree are so good and why I want them so desperately.

Next time I need to write a little less and try to fit everything that I writ on the published one without it looking just like black lines. Next time I also need to make the process of, for example banging the hammer on the tree, longer and more about banging the hammer on the tree.

DLO Explanation writing (What causes lightning?)

 

We were learning to create a DLO (Digital learning object) about explanation writing. Explanation writing is where you explain how to do something or why something happens. We got to choose out of a few questions that involved a life cycle, I chose "what causes lightning". The things we needed to do were, research about what are question was, a plan of our writing, a diagram and our writing.

I was being a researcher because I had to go onto my chromebook and search up the information I was looking for for this DLO about what causes lightning.

I found it easy to find all of my information about what causes lightning because I found one website that had quite a bit of information. I also found it easy to write out my writing because I had already found a lot of information.

I found it hard to create my diagram on google drawings because we had to make it completely from scratch but I found a way how to do it, for example I made the ice crystals from the second part of the diagram from using x's and putting them in different positions. I also found it hard to find a upright background because I needed to find something to do with lightning.

I really enjoyed this because I got to learn one of the questions that I have had and now have the answer too. I also so enjoyed this because I got to play around with what my slide looked like how I used word art in my slide.

Next time I need to make my diagram look better because some of the arrows are out of place and make it look a bit more clear about what the first part of my diagram is about, (which is cold air being the blue part the red part being the warm air and the middle being the storm.)

China DLO

 

In term 4 week 1 rooms 9 and 10 got a surprise envelope from the office at Mangapapa. We looked at the envelope we noticed that it had stamps from around the world on it and dirt we thought the envelope had traveled a long way. 

 We were learning to create a DLO about a certain country. We had to find a partner and then we got handed a piece of paper from the envelope. Me and my partner studied the paper for about ten seconds and released that we had got handed a letter from a girl in China. We had to read the letter after we read the letter we shared things about what we had learnt from it. We did a few different activities then on the last activity we had to make a DLO about what we have learnt.  

I found it easy to understand all of the words in the letter because there went many Chinese words. I also found it easy to record my voice so that it sounded fine on a website that our teachers told us about.

I found it challenging to fit everything in and make it look good on one google slide because there where quite a few things we needed to  fit in! I also found it hard to find good free to use picture because when you type up free to use it doesn't have as much of a selection.
 
I really enjoyed this because it was easier to work with two people so we had two brains to work with. I also really enjoyed this because I've learnt a lot of things about China like how they have six day of school and I only have 5 days of school.

Next time I need to try and make things smaller and not put to many pictures in my google slide and have more voice record parts in the google slide about what the picture mean and more information about them.

Spring writing!

We were learning to create spring writing about our favorite parts of spring. We had to use level 3 adjectives in this writing. I was also learning write a paragraph using a topic sentence, supporting details and a conclusion.

I found it easy to insert my picture into the slide and I also found it easy write about my favorite part of spring.

I found it hard to work out what I was going to do for my sentence beginnings because we couldn't have sentence beginnings like "The".

Next time I think I will use more level three adjectives so I can extend my vocabulary and so I can be on a higher level for writing.

Dodge home stay home (writing)

I was learning to create instructions for a game that we have made by taking two or three games and putting them together. I found it easy to figure out what two games I wanted to do because play Go home stay home quite a bit and I just enjoy playing dodgeball. I found it hard to make the text not clash with the background. I really enjoyed this because now I have created a new game to try out! Next time I need to put more verbs in my instructions.
